Trustees' Page

Welcome to the Trustees’ section of the website. This section contains essential information and guidance for Trustees of Hastings Trust, and also provides useful information for anyone considering offering their services as a Trustee. We welcome interest from those who are able to do this, and are always looking for ways to enhance the range of skills that trustees can between them bring to bear. These include opportunities for further training in different aspects of a trustee’s role.

Being a trustee is a voluntary post, and carries responsibilities for the strategic guidance of the Trust. The Board of Trustees meets quarterly. There is also an annual Awayday, usually in January, at which trustees, staff and volunteers are all present. Trustees are encouraged to involve themselves in the work of the Trust in a number of ways. There is a ‘project angel’ scheme by which a trustee may associate him or herself with a particular branch of the Trust’s work. There is also a standing Policy and Finance Committee which meets quarterly in advance of the full Board, and trustees are encouraged to join this committee to familiarise themselves more closely with the business of the Trust.

New Trustees
Potential trustees may offer their services, or be approached by the Trust. An enthusiasm for the Trust’s work, and willingness to commit a limited amount of time to fulfil the role, are pre-requisites. The Board looks for the right skills and experience to provide a balanced overview, and we ask trustees to complete a skills survey in order to ensure this. Suitable candidates may be co-opted by the Board, and will stand for election at the Trust’s AGM in September.

There is a standard induction process for new trustees to follow to assist them in getting a grasp of how the Trust operates. This includes the following:
• Declaration of eligibility
• Reading and studying the key documents on this Trustees’ page, followed by:
• Meetings with the Executive Director, Chair of the Board, and the Training and Development Coordinator
• Completion of a skills survey

A contact list will also be provided.
